REDS Managing Director, Lloyd Burnard, recently swapped his suit for a wetsuit and joined Help for Heroes at Towan Beach, Newquay in assisting with a surfing event called “Op Surf UK 2017”.
The event is run by Help For Heroes and American former pro surfer Van Curaza with the aim to support the wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans, using surfing as part of their recovery and rehabilitation. They believe in the healing power of the ocean and the positive impact it can have on the well-being of those participating as well as spreading the love of surfing.
Lloyd joined several other volunteers who spent the day coaching and providing water safety for participants of varying abilities. These men and women are incredible surfers despite many having sustained injuries and loss of limbs in the line of duty.
