Critical Infrastructure:
HVO Fuel Tank Installation

One of our critical infrastructure clients is working towards reducing emissions and achieving net zero by 2030. To support their energy transition, REDS was commissioned to install an above-ground HVO fuel tank on their secure site.
This project was completed in two phases, requiring the collaboration of both our Civils and Installation teams:
Phase 1: Construction of a reinforced concrete pad for the HVO tank, installation of ACO drainage and hardstanding for vehicle refuelling.
Phase 2: Installation of the 25,000 litre HVO fuel tank, positioned adjacent to an existing fuel pump.
Project Works
One of the key challenges was the seasonal weather conditions. To protect the freshly poured concrete from frost, hessian coverings and frost blankets were used, shielding the concreted areas from freezing temperatures.
Our engineers constructed the reinforced concrete tank base with accompanying ACO drainage. Once the foundation was set, the HVO tank was lifted into place, ready for electrical installations.
REDS electricians installed power supply systems, including a distribution board, pump, lighting and an emergency shut-off switch. Comprehensive testing was carried out on the fuel pump, safety mechanisms and emergency shutdown systems to ensure full functionality and compliance.
Upon project completion, REDS provided a full set of Operations and Maintenance manuals and relevant documentation before handing the site over to the client.
