Kirk Main Appointed To Lead REDS Fuel & Power Team

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Kirk Main as Fuel and Power Manager at REDS Group. This is a significant addition to our leadership team at a time of exciting change and opportunity.

Kirk brings with him over 23 years of experience in the fuelling industry, and as the immediate past Chairman of the Petroleum Equipment Installers and Maintenance Federation (PEIMF+), he is widely respected across the sector.

Kirk will lead the ongoing restructuring of our Fuel & Power division, a move designed to realign our operations and performance, align with company-wide goals and ensure our projects continue to be delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standard.

We sat down with Kirk to find out a little more about him and what he is looking forward to in his new role.

How long have you been in the industry?

I studied business management and hospitality and moved to London in the early 2000s, originally as a chef! Seems like a long time ago.

In 2004, I moved back to South Africa to join the family business. My father has been involved in the Petrochem industry most of his life and had his own companies in South Africa (Siyakha Pump and Tank).

I started on the tools, installing retail and commercial installations and worked my way up to Site Co-ordinator, Project and Health and Safety Manager, then on to General Manager. In 2012, I decided to move back to the UK.

What do you think the future holds for the industry?

Hydrogen has been hyped as the fuel of the future before, but it really might be different this time. Hydrogen is a significant part of the puzzle, together with renewable fuels and electrification. Hydrogen is part of the solution to get to net zero, and quite a significant part. That doesn’t entirely mean a hydrogen-based economy, but there is a sensible role for it in many sectors.

How do you feel, stepping into this new chapter at REDS?

I’m genuinely excited about my new role at REDS. It’s a fantastic opportunity to lead a dynamic division and contribute to the company’s continued success. I firmly believe that life is what you make it — so I live it to the fullest. For me, that means working hard, embracing new challenges, and making time to enjoy life outside of work too. Work hard, play hard is a motto I stand by.

What is your role at REDS and how do you spend your day at work?

As the Head of Division for Fuel & Power at REDS, my role involves overseeing the strategic and operational aspects of the division. My days are varied and dynamic — I often split my time between attending site meetings, managing and supporting my team, and ensuring the smooth execution of ongoing operations. A key part of my role is aligning the division’s activities with overall company goals, driving performance, and maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency, and client satisfaction.

What have been the most significant changes in the fuel industry during your time?

The fuel industry is evolving and changing towards a greener future. So with these changes come new recommendations, compliances and regulations. From EV installations to Hydrogen projects, I would say the future looks exciting.

What do you do in your spare time when you’re not at REDS?

Quality family time is a top priority for me. I enjoy relaxing with a good braai (BBQ), getting outdoors for a hike, and spending time on the ice — either ice skating or watching ice hockey. We’re proud season ticket holders and passionate supporters of the Nottingham Panthers, the 2025 Elite League Playoff Champions.
